The Carson City Library hosts their End-of-Summer-Learning-Challenge Party on Aug. 14 from 6-7:30 p.m. with Kantu Inka performing the first hour, followed by raffle prizes.

Since 2003, Kantu Inka’s Carlos Ocampo and Julie Lozada Ocampo have taught Peruvian culture, history and geography with Andean instruments to over 30,000 students of all ages in Nevada and California. Kantu Inka plays classic songs from Latin American folkloric music with an emphasis on Peruvian Andean music.

The library shares that their Summer Learning Challenge, which kicked off June 10, encourages and rewards readers of all ages while providing fun educational programs and special events including a grand prize raffle.

Virginia Evans, the library’s creative learning manager, added there are multiple prizes per age group. She also said patrons can submit last-minute grand-prize tickets at the closing event.

Evans said the program had 359 participants (on Aug. 3).

“We had some very successful SLC programs this summer including a three-day Code Camp and a Lunar Rocks & Meet a Meteorite program,” Evans said. “We also offered patrons the chance to earn more grand prize tickets this year by giving them a ticket every time they attended a program between June 10 and Aug. 14.”

Evans concluded that Beanstack, the online platform used to log program hours and activities, launched an app that allowed participants to easily access their account and log participation on their mobile devices.
