Welcome

Just bought a book"The Mission of the Friends of the Carson City Library is to support and promote the purposes and activities of the Library and its community." Since the time the mission statement was adopted in January 2005 we have worked hard to fulfill our mission.

We continue to be a sponsor of the National Library Week held annually in April, the Summer Reading Program for youth in June, and the Oktoberfest each October.

Throughout the year the Friends operate "Browsers Corner", a used bookstore located in the Library just inside the outer doors. All of our books, magazines, tapes, CDs, DVDs and collections are donated. Browsers is staffed 100% by members of the Friends volunteering their time. The manager and assistant managers and sorters volunteers hours each week to make Browsers successful.

Every year we organize and conduct at least six book sales. Most are held in the auditorium of the Library. Our largest is in conjunction with Oktoberfest held in the Pony Express Pavilion in Mills Park. Book sales have always been very successful due to the large number of volunteers who set-up the sale, sell and replenish the books, cashier, and takedown after the sale.

The sale of books, both from Browsers and book sales provide the bulk of our fund raising money. The funds are used solely for books, periodicals, art reproductions, technological equipment, furnishings and other equipment requested by the Library when the purchases would not be available through the budgeting process.

Friends also provide seed money for Library programs and services. We support, but do not lobby for library related legislation, including providing information to the legislature.

Friends benefit all Library users, and members of the community, children, youth, and adults.
